Lookin' out for the kids

There has been so much talk about BPA and that it can leech from certain plastics and lined metal cans that we come in contact with everyday. Although, it is not "proven" by science to be a complete danger to us and our little ones, the media and other sources are keeping us all aware of it. I have decided to make the switch over from the PC #7 water bottles the girls have to the SIGG water bottles and even got one for John as well. My friend Sarah has the Klean Kanteen sippy for her daughter and I am thinking of getting one for Evie and Luci. They say that refilling store bought water bottles is a big no no! That plastic breaks down so quickly and starts to leech the chemicals into your water! YIKES! I found the girls bottles at www.siggstore.com ,but found a really cool website called www.reusablebags.com ! Enjoy and be aware!

Kindergarten days are done, Look out 1st grade here I come!

Okay, Okay, I don't want to steal the light from Lisa's engagement, but we did have a specail event of our own happen last week. Mika was promoted to 1st grade! It was a very crazy day! Mika's promotion was supposed to include a picture slide show, but due to the fact that her school was being evacuated as the promotion happened, they had to cut that out. Thankfully the kinder kids did not know what was going on and went on with their show. They said a special Hail Mary, sang He's Got The Whole World in His Hands and The World is a Rainbow (a mom-o favorite by the way) and then had a little photo opp.
The school was evacuated and classes were cancled for the following day and thankfully the school was spared by the fire. I did have to fetch Mika and Abby from the Kinion's later that day since they had to evacuate their horses and pack up just incase they had to evacuate themselves! We saw flames from the road up on the ridge and again from John's school! So it ended up being a crazy day. But none the less Mika was adorable in her white dress and we are so happy for her and proud of how well she did this year in kinder! Way to go Mika!

Best bud Kelly...does she look a little like Emmy or is it just me! :)

...It was all Marge's idea!...

Once Marge heard that Lisa got engaged and she remembered her car was parked in our drive way, she said we should decorate her car with wedding bells! Well her elves got to work and we did just that! Marina and Mika went and got all the goods and we synchronized our watches and met back here to go through with the plan. Abby and Luci were big helpers as you can see! We put stars and wedding bells and balloons, tueling, and a big bling bling in the rear view mirror! They found a ginormous wedding dress balloon to put in the driver's seat! Hope you had fun taking all of that out Lisa!

Engaged at the Grand Canyon!

While Ryan has been recovering from Tommy John Surgery in Arizona this baseball season, Lisa has been able to take a few trips out to visit and also help him after his first couple of days home from surgery. Well...this trip paid off:) They took a trip to the Grand Canyon. They got to float down the Colorado River, check out the awesome scenery and get engaged!

Some how my parents were able to keep a secret. Ryan called them and asked them for Lisa's hand in marriage! How sweet, he would have come to Fresno and asked them in person but he does have a job to report to everyday and vacation time doesn't start until September!

Here are a few more pictures from their trip! When someone asks Lisa like 30 years from now where Ryan proposed to her, there is no way she will forget! A trip to the Grand Canyon is unforgettable in itself!
Congrats again guys!

My Ring is This Big!

green toys...

I feel like I have been doing my darndest to save the planet. I use reusable bags at pretty much everystore, use a comuter mug, John rides his bike to school, I have two compost bins and a worm bin, somedays I do my best to just not go anywhere! I am doing my part right??? Up until recent events I was feeling really good about my green skills!

We were invited to a friend's 1st bday, so I took myself down to target and got a standard 1st bday kind of toy. We saw the dad a week later and I asked if she got a ton of toys and then he said it"...yeah, all made in china, makes me sick..." I thought to myself OMG what have I done! To get the record straight, I really don't know enough about what is going on in China to take a political stand, but this is more of toy safety issue, how is it made, what is it made out of? Why are we so obsessed with these mass produced plastic toys. I am so guilty of it, we have like the entire Dora land and love them! I will never get rid of them, but I have pledged that I will be more concious of my toy purchases for my kids and for friends gifts. As you can see I have done some research...I found this toy line that is based in San Francisco and the toys are made from 100% curbside collected, recycled milk jugs! How awesome is that! And these great animals from Australia that are made out of wood. Our good budy Ben was the recipient of a sand pail set from Green Toys, so cool. I know I won't be able to steer completly away from Made in China, but at least I can research the company and buy toys that are made of natural fibers like, wood and fabric. I know that Melissa and Doug make their toys in China, but they test them on their own 6 kids, so they must be safe. Okay I will step off my soap box, but I have been passionate about this lately, yes, even enough to blog about it! who knew!

Do you know these two?

We are using one of our other computers and I found some old pictures in one of the folders! This is Mika and Abby in July of 2004 at the Carmel Mission! Check out the cheeks on Abby!
